Description

This Certified Immigration Support Specialist Program, offered by Siotoh Academy, is divided into three (3) sessions; CISS 101, 102 & 103. Each session is designed to build on previous lessons.

As the program progresses, you will then focus on political asylum, refugee laws, and removal proceedings.

This advanced program offers an extraordinary curriculum designed by practicing attorneys for the people who want to pursue a specialization in immigration law.

CISS is a synchronized course that is delivered through a robust learning management system. It begins with the essentials of immigration law needed to help an immigration paralegal adjust, contribute meaningfully, and assist the immigration attorney in the practice and management of immigration law firms.

CISS 101

CISS 101 examines the process by which the United States offers immigration to foreign nationals. This synchronized advance online course introduces students to the essentials of immigration law such as the agencies that affect immigration law, ethical issues to be aware of, family-based petitions and benefits, consular processing and adjustment of status, waivers and proving hardships, and more.

 

  • Students will learn the role of a paralegal in the law firm including the process of becoming a paralegal, how to manage clients, initiate cases, and everything related to them.
  • The advanced course offers you complete ethical knowledge and concepts regarding the immigration processes. You will get a clear understanding of the part government agencies play in the immigration procedures and how to deal with them for attaining the documents and forms.
  • Students will learn family-based petition, adjustment of status, consular processing, and removal of condition in detail. With this immigration certification course, students will learn how to locate, use, and prepare supporting documentation for the family-based petition.
  • Students will be exposed to the process of drafting waivers such as 601A waiver; Establishing extreme hardship with the use of psychological evaluation; Knowledge of I-212 waiver, eligibility, how to apply for permission to reapply for admission into the United States after deportation or removal, and preparation of supporting documentation of the application.

CISS 102

CISS 102 focuses on the various non-immigrant and immigrant visas, such as B-1 and B-2 non-immigrant visas, their processes, extension, and how to prepare the application packages. Treaty Trader Visa, E-1 & E-2, H-1B visa, O, P, Q, R-1, and TN NAFTA Non-Immigrant Visas, Special Immigrant Juveniles (SIJ) Status, and special considerations pertaining to foreign investors will also be discussed. Topics such as naturalization and U.S. citizenship will also be introduced.

  • The advanced course offers you complete ethical knowledge and concepts regarding the immigration processes. You will get a clear understanding of the part government agencies play in the immigration procedures and how to deal with them for attaining the documents and forms.

CISS 103

CISS 103 focuses on understanding U.S. asylum and Refugee laws as part of the International Framework. The students will learn about the differences between affirmative asylum and defensive asylum.

  • Students will continue to learn about application for asylum – process, timeframe, options for decisions by the Asylum officer, asylum law based upon political opinion, religion, race of nationality, and social group. Persecution, reasonable fear, and benefits afforded to asylee and refugees.
  • The advance course offers you the knowledge of asylum process in Immigration Court, the role of the Executive Office of Immigration Review Courts within the Department of Justice, step by step process in Immigration court, the consequences of a denial or grant of asylum in Immigration Court, and the appeals process of decisions in immigration court.
  • Students will learn about withholding/cancellation of removal,allegations in Notice to Appear (NTA), the Convention Against Torture (CAT), factors that place an immigrant in removal proceedings, concept of Bond and mandatory detention, benefits, and drawbacks to various forms of relief.

President/CEO of Siotoh Academy, Martins I. Imudia, an LLM from Tulane University Law School, has more than two decades of experience in immigration and nationality laws. He has expertise in solving all kinds of immigration issues such as employment, deportation, business visas, and labor certification. He holds a JD equivalent degree from Abo Akademi University in Abo, Finland, and has done his doctorate in business administration from Walden University.

Instructor, Morten B. Christoffersen a law degree holder from Copenhagen. Originally from Denmark, he obtained his Master’s Degree in International Law and Business and a Juris Doctor Degree from Stetson University College of Law, St. Petersburg, Florida. He has over 13 years of experience in immigration law and family law.

Instructor, Yohan Zingile is an immigration attorney at CFUIS Bradenton office. He obtained his master’s degree in Litigation Law from the University of Antilles in Guadeloupe and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 2017. He has been working in the field of immigration for about seven years. He first started working on immigration cases when he was a student at the immigration law clinic of the law school. In his free time, he likes playing tennis, eating food from different countries, and learning about new cultures. His main goal is to help students understand immigration law.

We offer an online Immigration Law Specialist Certificate Program. Once a student is registered, he/she will be provided with complete details about the course. All they need is a computer and a good internet connection. Students will be offered their personal accounts with usernames and passwords to maintain confidentiality. 

Course Duration 

The Certified Immigration Support Specialist program is designed as a three semester Certification Program for persons who wish to advance their paralegal careers in immigration law. The first session, CISS 101, is an eight (8) week course. The second session, CISS 102, is another eight (8) week course, while the third session, CISS 103, is only a five (5) week course.

The program is divided into three (3) sessions, and after each session, students will be evaluated based on knowledge gained from each course.
